 Harsh weather and lack of  proper care can make the skin of a person rough. In areas where the temperature is very low in winter, there is no humidity in the air and the exposed skin becomes dry and rough. Home remedies are cheap and without any side effects. Some of the home remedies for making rough skin smooth are:

1. A small amount of  turmeric powder, besan (gram flour), milk or curd can be used to make a thin paste. The paste should be applied on the rough skin, till it becomes dry and then wiped off.

2. If the skin on the knees, elbows or feet is rough, soak in warm water for  some time till it becomes soft. Then scrub with a scrubbing stone, loofah brush or glove .  A pumice stone can also be used to remove the dry skin. Apply a moisturizer or a lotion with aloe vera gel after the dry skin is removed. This routine has to be followed regularly to prevent build up of  rough skin.

3. Soak almonds in water and make a paste with it. Rub it on the rough skin and keep the paste for 20 minutes. Then rinse the skin with warm water.

4. Mix 10 mg of saffron in 1 tablespoon of  milk. Apply this on the rough skin at night. Wash with lukewarm water the next day in the morning.
 

5. Vaseline mixed with a skin lotion works for some people. It can be greasy, so it should be applied at night.

 

6. Twice a week, add a few drops of  baby oil to your bath water, especially in winter

 

7. Drink plenty of water - more than 8 glasses per day, so that your skin remains hydrated. Also wear clothes to keep most of your body covered.
